HEALTH and NUTRITION
Good health is directly tied to the food you eat. Proper nutrition is a very important component in maintaining health and wellness.
I am going to explain to you what the body is designed to do with regards to the digestion, breakdown, and utilization of carbohydrates (CHO),Fats and Proteins.
Carbohydrates-Your body is designed to burn carbohydrates for energy and metabolism. The body digests carbohydrates and breaks it down into simple sugars ( glucose and glycogen). These simple sugars are utilized by the cells of your body to perform metabolic functions. Each cell in your body uses glucose and glycogen to create the "energy "required for the cell to function properly. Most of the energy the body requires comes from carbohydrates! The energy your muscles require for everyday functions is derived from the breakdown of carbohydrates.
Fats- Believe it or not are needed by the body to perform certain functions. In between each nerve cell ending there is an oil produced by the breakdown of fat that helps the nerves communicate messages to each other. Fat also insulates our body from cold and protects our organs from trauma. Because your body use's fats for various metabolic reasons it is not inclined to burn fat or utilize it as an energy source. Therefore, the body saves fat for future use.
Proteins- People these days are big on high protein diets ! Let me explain why I believe this is unhealthy. Proteins like fats perform important functions within the body. Muscle is built with protein, the cells of your body have membranes (outer coverings) made from protein. Your hair and nails are made from protein. So you see, your body does not want to utilize protein as an energy source. It saves it for more important functions or it excretes excess through urine. Urine is composed of nitrogenous waste. When the body breaks down protein , nitrogen is given off as a by product. The kidneys filter this waste and excretes it from the body. A diet high in protein can possibly overwork and be harmful to your kidneys. Remember, always consult with a licensed nutritionist for proper advice on nutrition.
Enjoy today and everyday! Be well and smile:)
